Never one to shy away from speaking the truth and calling a spade a spade, Archbishop Carlo Viganò has once again not disappointed in a social media post.

In reference to the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary today, and in honor of the historical event that led to its institution — the Battle of Lepanto — His Excellency issued a stark appeal to Catholics while rebuking politicians and members of the “self-proclaimed Catholic hierarchy” for turning their backs on Christendom.

“Today the rulers of Europe, forgetful of the identity of their peoples forged by Roman Catholicism, deliver their own countries defenseless to a new invasion,” the former Apostolic Nuncio said. “And the self-proclaimed Catholic hierarchy, which should rally the faithful, encourages ethnic replacement, blesses those who promote it, and calls ‘dialogue’ its own vile and abject desertion.”

Writing in his native Italian, His Excellency called upon Catholic faithful to remember Lepanto, to recognize the spiritual character of the present crisis, and to return to the weapon by which Christian civilization once implored Heaven for deliverance.

“An Europe apostate from the Faith and perverted in Morals no longer has galleys, because it no longer has Rosaries,” he explained. “Let us return to the foot of the altar. Let us return to the daily Rosary.”

On October 7, 1571, the fleet of the Holy League confronted Ottoman forces in Western Greece. While outnumbered Christian sailors fought at sea, Pope Saint Pius V and the faithful prayed the Rosary, securing the victory. Archbishop Viganò connected the battle with Old Testament figure Gideon. “The Lord took away twenty-nine thousand men from his commander and left him three hundred, so that no one would attribute to their own forces a victory that was His.”

Being sure to distinguish between the migrant problem itself and those who politically and economically benefit from their exploitation, His Excellency noted that “to the people who arrive, the Catholic Church owes charity and the proclamation of Christ; to their exploiters, courageous denunciation and resistance.”

The good archbishop then turned his ire toward the ruling elite. “The first enemies of the European peoples are not those who violate our borders: they are those who, servants of the financial powers that claim to govern nations, use them to undermine Religion and the social order, and thus impose their technocratic tyranny,” he thundered.

Viganò’s statement is a timely reminder to counter-revolutionaries that they need not wait for parliamentary majorities, institutional favor, episcopal conferences, or political saviors, because Heaven, Our Lady, and the Rosary have not changed and are entirely capable of tearing down the false structures the enemy has established to enforce the lies of modernity and prevent the Social Kingship of Christ.
